Warm greetings!
We gladly welcome you to the Las Pinas City website. Through this site, we hope you’ll be able to learn what there is to know about Las Pinas Our Home, one of the most vibrant and multi-awarded cities in Metro Manila.
It was only recently that I – together with our new Vice-Mayor Henry Medina and 12 other members of the City Council – were given a fresh, overwhelming mandate to once again lead over our progressive city. I thank the people of Las Pinas for making the wise choice , for this means I can continue the projects started by my past administration and those spearheaded by my wife, the Hon. Imelda Tobias-Aguilar who was the last sitting mayor of the city.
I assure you that our zeal for the progress and development of Las Piñas will remain unabated. Our residents and visitors can now see all over our city the fruits of our hard work: the modern roads we have built, the numerous school buildings, health centers, playgrounds, transport terminals and numerous other infrastructures, including the modern walkway and escalator which can rival that of Makati City. Las Piñas City, in fact, stands proud in the Hall of Fame of local government units for having garnered innumerable awards and citations from prestigious and respectable organizations.
Among these are our three consecutive awards for the “Cleanest and Greenest City” (1997-1999). A multi-agency committee headed by the tourism and environment departments specifically cited our efforts in efficiently managing our garbage collection which resulted in substantial savings for our government.
In the field of social services, our health centers were cited by the Department of Health under its “Sentrong Sigla” contest as model facilities for providing quality services to our people, particularly the poor. In fact, the City’s Main Health Center was chosen as the Best Health Facility in the whole country.
Our city was also chosen as the “Most Child-Friendly” among the highly urbanized cities in the entire Philippines. This award from the Council for the Welfare of Children is a fitting recognition for our efforts in providing free education to our youth. Worth noting is the free college scholarship program for poor but deserving students we initiated at the Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College.
In peace and order, Las Piñas continues to enjoy one of the lowest crime rates in Metro Manila and in the whole country. On top of this, our city also has very effective crime fighting record, with a 99 percent efficiency in crime-solving capability last year.
In the sphere of public service, our city administration was lauded by the Civil Service Commission for its efficiency and accessibility to ordinary people. CSC also cited our people-friendly facilities and fully air-conditioned taxpayers’ lobby, as well as our world-class health centers.
Last but not the least, our mass housing and urban renewal program for the homeless has earned excellent rating from the Office of the President’s Social Reform Agenda for our successful implementation of mass-housing and livelihood projects for economically-disadvantaged residents.
True to our promise, Las Piñas is probably the only one among LGUs at present to provide and care for its residents – from birth till death.I attribute our success to our community spirit and our collective willingness to cooperate for the greater good which is what inspires each one of us to work better and harder each day, each week, each month and each year to make our city a better place to live in.
Yes, strong leadership is important but it is the people’s collective contributions that lead to meaningful development. For development and progress is about people. Just as the people are the ultimate object of development they too are the prime movers of progress and change.
As we embark on a fresh start, it is my fervent wish that we will continue to work together in facing the challenges of the future. I am confident that with our people’s continuing support and cooperation, we will be able to reap the benefits of even greater progress and growth this year and in the years ahead.
Nagmamahal,
Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar
