Aguilar calls for citizens’ vigilance in crime prevention
November 28, 2007
Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar has called on the citizens for vigilance and cooperation with the police to deter any form of criminal activities, in preparation for the celebration of the Christmas holidays.
The appeal was aired yesterday as P/Senior Superintendent Amando Clifton Empiso, city police chief, reported that additional policemen from the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) were assigned last week to beef up the city’s present police force.
Mayor Aguilar said vigilance and close coordination of the residents with the police must be strengthened at all times pointing out that crime prevention emanates from everyone’s conscious effort to protect themselves and not only to rely on the law enforcers.
Las Piñas counts on some 300 police officers and men for security and crime solution.
“All of us must do our part in terms of protecting our own personal security and property and vigilance is a foremost step to deter any incidence of crime,” Aguilar said.
The mayor also instructed Empiso to implement comprehensive measures to ensure that peace and order prevail, reiterating a previous order for strengthened police visibility like more mobile and foot patrol, particularly in strategic areas.
Aguilar put emphasis on the protection of residents against thefts and burglars, urging their respective homeowners’ associations to keep a close coordination with the barangay officials and the police
Police statistics cite that it is in this time of the year when burglaries (akyat-bahay), robbery-hold up, cellphone/bag snatching, pickpocket incidents chalk the highest, as people are of their opulence as they celebrate the holidays.
Meanwhile, Empiso informed the mayor that the police is all set to conduct crime prevention and solution seminar-training to the city’s barangay tanod when newly elected barangay officials assume office on December 1.
This replicates Aguilar’s policy of providing the local policemen and barangay tanod more trainings and seminars to help improve their skills and management in handling various crime incidence.
Improving the policemen and tanod’s skills and learning will ensure that human rights violations can be avoided in the exercise their duties and responsibilities, Aguilar said. (END)
