Aguilar orders security, sanitary inspection of business establishments
November 16, 2007
Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar ordered a composite team of sanitary inspectors and engineers to conduct inspection of all business establishments in the city to ensure safety of the public in anticipation of the influx of shoppers with the onset of the holiday season.
The order came as the mayor expressed concern over the general peace and order situation in the wake of bombing incidents and crimes saying necessary steps must be in place as precautionary measures to protect the public and residents
Mayor Aguilar instructed the team to carry out comprehensive check on malls and business establishments to ensure that they comply with the sanitary standards and security procedures to protect the public and residents from any untoward incident.
Specific concerns are preventive procedures adopted by every commercial establishment, on top of the ongoing security measures implemented by their respective security units and the city police force.
The mayor also expressed, in specific terms, strict compliance with the sanitation code and garbage disposal system, anticipating the additional volume of trash with the onset of the holiday season. He said it is inevitable that volume of garbage will increase what with the parties and merry makings to celebrate Christmas next month and welcome the New Year.
“While security measures and garbage disposal system are two distinct concerns, we could not ignore the fact that these are realities confronting us that may result to a tragedy if not addressed immediately,” Mayor Aguilar said.
There are at least three (3) shopping malls, two (2) warehouse stores, several supermarkets, and numerous fastfood chain and restaurants operating in the city.
The team is tasked to look into the physical/structural safety of the establishment, its sanitation/garbage disposal system, security measures, as well as its overall business code compliance.
Mayor Aguilar solicited the cooperation of businessmen and business establishment operators in the mandated inspection to ensure safety of the public and their business protection. (END)
