Las Piñas tops Civil Registry in the country
October 19, 2007
The Las Piñas City local civil registry was cited as Most Outstanding Civil Registry Office in the Philippines in recognition of its innovative approach to enlist and update basic social data of its residents.
The award was presented by National Statistic Office administrator and Civil Registrar General Carmelita Ericta during its 5th National Convention of Solemnizing Officers in Cagayan de Oro City on October 11, 2007.
Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar lauded the efforts of the civil registry office headed by Luningning Aragon and staff, for effectively implementing measures in improving the civil registration services as part of the city government’s frontline programs.
The local registry staff and personnel have immersed in all the city’s 20 barangays, concentrating on highly populated ones, for the civil recording and awareness campaign in beefing up the data bank with the most updated information.
The past two years the city conducted extensive drive to have all unregistered residents, particularly children and minors, be listed with corresponding data as evidence of their being rightful citizens.
Aguilar said it is his goal that no resident of Las Piñas be denied a civil registry record, it being a basic human right and proof of one’s being a legitimate Filipino.
“And with the innovative approach, all newborn and registered residents of the city can secure a copy of their civil certificates in no time,” Aguilar said.
With the award, the mayor also called on other departments and offices to emulate the experience of the local civil registry to champion the city’s over- all initiatives and improve on providing basic services to the public. (END)
