Aguilar challenges new police chief to make Las Piñas the most peaceful city in Metro Manila
October 11, 2007
Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar directed newly designated police chief P/Senior Superintendent Amando Clifton B. Empiso to draw and implement comprehensive measures to ensure that peace and order would prevail in the city and with the intention of making Las Piñas the most peaceful city in the whole National Capital Region.
Aguilar said he expects the local police chief to present the plan the soonest possible time to facilitate its immediate implementation and coordination among agencies concerned.
Empiso replaced P/Sr. Supt. Josephus Angan as the city police chief in a reshuffle recently implemented by the Philippine National Police (PNP) hierarchy.
“It’s high time that our policemen raise their standards to provide a better environment for the residents and the business establishments,” Aguilar said.
Las Piñas has been cited as one of the most peaceful in the NCR, with very isolated crime incidents. “We have to maintain this track record in or even improve it in order to entice business opportunities and thereby provide livelihood for our people,” Aguilar stressed.
He added that while the city is heading towards progress, a healthy and peaceful environment is still crucial for economic activities.
The mayor reiterated his order to the previous police chief for strengthened police visibility and round-the-clock monitoring to deter incidents of crime. The directive includes monitoring and prevention of any form of vices like video karera games, illegal gambling, and those that particularly involve or victimize the youth.
Aguilar also put emphasis on the protection of residents and homeowners against thieves and burglars, calling on the cooperation of everyone to be more security-conscious and to develop close coordination with barangay officials and the police.
Meanwhile, the mayor replicated his policy of providing the local policemen more training opportunities and seminars to help improve their skills and management in handling various crimes.
Improving the policemen’s skills will also ensure that human rights violations can be avoided in the policemen’s exercise of their duties and responsibilities, Aguilar said. (END)
