Las Piñas warns of waterborne diseases
October 5, 2007
Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar reminded city residents to take necessary precautions on the possible outbreak of diseases this rainy season, like dengue and other waterborne illness as he orders clean up drive operations in various parts of the city to avert the spread of the killer disease.
Aguilar’s advice came with the onset of the rainy season as he directed the City Health Office, the Environment and Sanitation Center and Barangay officials to intensify the city-wide clean-up of their surroundings.
The mayor reiterated his call for a disease-free community, citing possible occurrence of water-borne diseases, like dengue, leptospirosis or illness caused by rats’ urine and other communicable diseases. It is in this season that the said illnesses occur which could be fatal if not detected at once.
Aguilar urges city residents to keep their surroundings clear of all possible breeding areas by the dengue-carrying mosquitoes the aedes egypti and aedes albopictus such us rubber tires, gutters, flower bases and to cover water container like drums and pails since these killer mosquitoes also breed in stagnant clean water. He pointed out that prevention is still the best weapon to the dreaded diseases and a clean and healthy environment must always prevail.
Meanwhile, Mayor Aguilar advised all city health center doctors and nurses to accommodate and give medical services to the residents, especially these times of the year when illnesses are prevalent due to rainy season.
If necessary, the Mayor added, Las Piñeros must have regular check- up and visit their respective health centers for prevention or early detection of any disease. And if need be, the residents could use their medical cards (Green Cards) issued by City Hall for further medical services at the San Juan de Dios Hospital and Las Piñas Doctors’ Hospital, duly accredited for the purpose.
