Las Piñas: Most financially sound city in the country
September 28, 2007
Las Piñas City ranked 7th among the cities in the country to have maintain cash savings in the bank (liquid assets) and without any liability, according to the 2006 Commission on Audit (COA) report.
Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar welcomed the COA report attributing the government’s savings to frugal spending and thoroughly studied programs and projects where the taxpayers’ money must go.
At the same time, the mayor commended City Treasurer Rizal Y. del Rosario for the wise handling of the city funds, despite the meager income and limited resources. He said that with del Rosario’s cooperation and wise financial management, the city coffers remain very liquid with no liability, yet the basic services and all other obligations are addressed.
Aguilar said the latest COA report showed that the local chief executive, along with the members of the city council and city officials, have strictly adhered to their commitment to properly manage and disbursed the tax payers monies through sensible programs and projects.
“This clearly shows that we can achieve our goal in providing the basic services to our people despite our limited resources and even implement other programs, only through proper fiscal management, Aguilar said.
The recent COA report all the more inspired Aguilar to institute more projects to benefit not only the underprivileged, but also the city employees and the business sector, to continue maintain the confidence of the residents that their taxes are properly handled to further benefit more people.
Meanwhile, Las Piñas was also chosen as one of the Most Outstanding Accounting Offices in the Philippines by the Commission on Audit and Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) to be given on October 17, 2007 in Mandaue City, Cebu.
The city has been implementing and strengthened various basic services like free hospitalization (through the Green Card program), day care centers, more school buildings and well maintained roads and all other infrastructure projects. (END)
