September 19, 2007
Las Piñas City’s accounting office was chosen one of the 2007 Outstanding Accounting Offices by the Commission on Audit (COA) in recognition of its exceptional financial and accounting systems.
The recognition was conveyed to Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) Inc., citing the city accounting office’s excellent performance in terms of accuracy, completeness, and quality of accounting report.
Las Piñas is one of the two Metro Manila cities, the other one is Pasig City, to receive the award among the six awardees on the national level. Other recipients are the cities of Tanauan (Batangas), Cauayan (Isabela), Batangas City (Batangas), and Bago City (Negros Occidental).
“I am proud of the accounting office’s achievement led by the City Accountant Ernesto Tolentino and his staff for this fitting recognition,” Mayor Aguilar said.
Aguilar said the citation speaks well of his goal for an efficient and well managed public funds where the best part of the budget goes to the basic services like health, education, environment and infrastructure.
He said this inspires him to all the more pursue his flagship projects despite the limited budget and resources based on the policy of prudent spending of the taxpayers money.
AGAP secretary Tina Rose Marie Canda explained that the awardees were chosen by COA from all the local government units, offices and departments based on its strictest criteria of accuracy, timeliness and quality of accounting reports.
The awarding ceremony will be held on October 17, 2007 in Mandaue, Cebu which coincides with this year’s AGAP convention-seminar. (END)
