Aguilar to sack negligent police officers
July 27, 2007
Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar ordered the police to intensify its crime prevention measures to avert outbreak of crime incidence warning the city police chief and precinct commanders he would relieve them from post for failure to do their job.
The warning came as mayor expressed concern over the incidence of robbery-hold up cases, which victimized a local rural bank and the reported increase of crime occurrences.
Aguilar said he would recommend the filing of charges or relief from post of any police officer who fails to maintain peace and order or prevent any outbreak of crime in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
“I will not tolerate negligence on the part of our law enforcers as safety and protection of our people must take precedence at all times,” Aguilar said.
The mayor cited the mounting complaints of crimes like celllphone snatching, drug pushing, akyat-bahay, and the robbery-hold up incident at First Marco Bank in Brgy. Pulang Lupa last July 24 where robbers took P30,000 and cellphone units from bank employees.
Aguilar said the increasing number of youths hooked on illegal drugs prompted him to order the police to enforce and intensify surveillance and security measures.
The warning also came with the creation of Task Force Kaayusan to do surveillance works, information gathering and closely coordinate with the police in its anti-crime operations in the city.
Barangay chairmen in the city’s 20 barangays were also reminded to mobilize their respective tanods (watchmen) in the monitoring and implementation of their own security measures.
At the same time, the mayor enjoined homeowners’ associations in all of the city’s villages and subdivisions to cooperate with the police in the maintenance of peace and order and beef up their own security force.
Aguilar pointed out that residents are capable of policing their respective areas which is of big help to law enforcers in protecting them from lawless elements.
Residents are advised to call 117 or 871-8221 for immediate assistance or relay information relative to crime solution. (END)
