Las Piñas produces 4,000 skilled Filipinos yearly
July 24, 2007
The City of Las Piñas is now becoming the country’s center for skills development as its local manpower and skills training school produces an average of 4,000 competent workers and entrepreneurs annually.
An additional 1,095 graduates who undergone a three-month vocational and technical courses will add up to the list of skilled Filipinos after receiving the certificate of completion from Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar recently.
Mayor Aguilar said this batch of year 2007 graduates will be provided referrals for job placements in various companies in the city through the assistance of the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
The city’s manpower and skills training school, a priority project of Mayor Aguilar, provides quality vocational and technical education to underprivileged city residents who do not have the means to enroll in a four-year college course to be able to gain employment.
Since 1995, the Center had already produced nearly 50,000 graduates who are now gainfully employed, while other run their own small livelihood businesses.
The local technical education and skills development school offers courses in audio technician; automotive trouble shooting; commercial electricity; computer technician; cosmetology; data encoding; high speed sewing; dressmaking; hotel and restaurant services; food trade; welding; refrigeration; and air-conditioning.
Meanwhile, Aguilar is delighted over the remarkable achievements of the Training Center for being consistently awarded as No.1 Manpower Training Center in the country.
The Center is also the constant gold medalist in the recent TESDA District Youth Skills Competition and in the Philippine National Youth Skills Olympics. (END)
